FORMATION OF LEXICAL UNITS BASED ON THE KINESTHETIC‑KINESTHETIC METHOD IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASS IN THE EARLY GRADES

Abstract

Proficiency in a foreign language, especially English, is one of the most important skills needed to build a successful career and broaden one’s horizons through knowledge of other cultures, as well as to facilitate international interaction and the development of our country on the global stage. . The foundation for successful foreign language learning is laid in early childhood, in primary school. Of particular interest are methods that are tailored to the age‑related and psychophysiological characteristics of younger students, including the need for movement and a change in types of activity. One such method is the bodily‑kinesthetic method. It involves the assimilation of educational material through a combination of movement and speech activity. With its help, information is absorbed through the main channels of perception, capturing the attention of all students: auditory, kinesthetic, and visual learners, increasing their engagement in learning activities and creating more favorable conditions for the assimilation of new vocabulary and the activation of their vocabulary. The aim of this article is to investigate the potential of the bodily‑kinesthetic methodology in developing the active foreign‑language vocabulary of younger schoolchildren during English lessons. In addressing this issue, the authors solved the following tasks: they studied the age‑related characteristics of younger schoolchildren and the features of forming their active foreign‑language vocabulary; they identified the methodological principles for teaching foreign‑language vocabulary to younger schoolchildren; and they presented an analysis of the bodily‑kinesthetic methodology and its educational potential.
